Helping in SA
They appear to be taking collections of clothing etc at the Wayville showgrounds (8am to 6pm), and also at U-Store it Norwood (52 Sydenham Rd) and Gepps Cross (575 Grand Junction Rd), usual business hours I presume. Right, I'm off to bed. | | 4:10 pm |
Bushfire Appeal Donations
I've also been pointed at this which is good for donations worldwide; https://www.redcross.org.au/Donations/onlineDonations.aspIt should default to the Bushfire Appeal. The NAB banking details are still good (and the first details I got hold of) but this may be easier for some. Cheers. Aaaaaand, Salvo stores in Adelaide are taking clothes, linen and household goods (Cutlery, books, toys, etc). Anything that cannot be used directly by bushfire victims will be sold at the stores with money going towards the appeal. Now, I know you are all sensible people, but please, only donate stuff that is in reasonable condition and useful, and they have asked NO FURNITURE PLEASE. Ta. | | 9:47 am |
To help
An update from my previous post; For international (or local) people wanting to donate via electronic means, that's "Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund" at National Australia Bank, 345 George St, Sydney. BSB 082001 Account 860046797. SWIFT CODE: NATAAU3302S Not surprisingly I've not been able to get through to the Salvos yet to find out if they are taking stuff in SA. In Victoria I understand what they really need is volunteers to help distribute goods more than they need goods right now. In a way it's kind of nice to know that people are so giving, that the Salvos and Red Cross can't cope with the generosity. So, most immediate need is for blood donations (call 13 14 95 to make an appointment), man hours and money. In the near future there will definitely still be need for household items, so don't throw them out just yet! Update
All sorts of information on lots of things you can do and places you can help out for the bushfire relief. In particular, if you can donate blood that would be really really good. Burns victims are going to need supplies long term. http://blogs.abc.net.au/victoria/2009/02/offer-help---or.htmlI'm going to find out tomorrow if there are any places in SA taking household goods - clothing, blankets, etc - to help. I'm guessing Salvation Army will be a good place to start. It was odd yet strangely comforting that the first news update I managed to get here was with Mal Waldon. Same story, but he looks a bit more grey and withered since 1983. Latest news update shows 84 dead, including newsreader Brian Naylor, which just adds to the surrealness and sadness of it all. I think I break the record! I've had this thing for over 6 months now and I've finally made an entry. This LJ is going to be a private friends only LJ for a variety of reasons. If you're a friend and would like to receive my (no doubt erratic) posts and I haven't friended you already, drop me a line stating your case and I'll see what I can do :-) |
